The Borno State Government today launched free school uniform and feeding for primary school pupils in order to encourage school enrollment in the state.
For over eight month schools in the state were closed down following incessant attacks by insurgents Boko Haram sect but the schools were open last week.
Governor Kashim Shettima, who launched the programmes at the Moduganari primary school in Maiduguri metropolis, said the state government is doing all it can to reposition the educational sector in the state.
“This administration has attached great priority to the provision of education, hence the giant stride taken to ensure teaching and learning continue to flourish. However, much to the dismay of people and government, a challenge inform of insecurity outbreak, to which this administration bumped into, became the major impediment to our socioeconomic development.
“We are here for the future of our children and, I must insist, we must as parents and guardians consolidate our stand so that we build a stable and brighter future for them,” Governor Shettima said.
On the welfare of teachers, he said that head teachers will henceforth be paid allowance so that they will be hold onto their responsibilities with authority.
The governor also said that deserving and suitable teachers will be given furniture allowance and loans to give way for equal participation in government activities.
