Bayelsa: AIG decries violation of human rights

The Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG, Zone 5, Mr. Hashimu Salihu Argugu has stated the command’s readiness to dismiss any police officer caught abusing Human Rights and carrying out violate attacks on civilians.
The Police boss who stated this in Yenagoa yesterday urged ranks and files to desist from brutalizing civilians, as offenders would be summarily dismissed.
Hashimu also decried the use of excessive powers by armed policemen on armless civilians, saying that the era of policemen brutalizing civilians has gone in the history of policing.
“Everybody should know his rights and exercise his fundamental human rights effectively without any violation; everybody should fight for his constitutional rights in the society” Hashimu declared.
According to Hashimu, “the police command would dismiss any officer who uses excessive powers on civilians’.
The AIG disclosed that he is in Yenagoa for the tour of commands under his jurisdiction to check incessant crime rates, describing media practitioners as vanguard in checking crimes and insecurity in the society.
Accompanied by State Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State and top police officers, Hashimu said the command is saddle with the problems of protecting lives and security and providing safety to civilians, saying that the command would partner with media practitioners in tackling insecurity and other menaces that are affecting the state.
“We need your corporation; we want to partner with the media experts hand in hand for the common growth of the society, as police and media are in partnership to check crimes”. He said.
While commanding Bayelsa Police command for achieving success in curbing crimes, Hashimu scored the state low in term of crime rates across his jurisdictions.
Earlier, Chairman, NUJ, Bayelsa State, Comrade Tarinyo Akuno decried the incessant abuse of Human Rights by armed policemen, particularly in Bayelsa state as he dismissed the call for the establishment of state police in the country.

He lauded the police authority for re-strategizing the force in the state and hails the deployment of the special police outfit, operation ‘Doo Akpo’ in streets of Yenagoa to check crime waves.
