The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday showed class and its readiness to sweet all available elective positions both at the state and at the Federal level, when it held the part of the state hostage with its one million man match.

The rally which completely paralysed activities on the Ikorodu Road, a major link road for both Lagos residents and those just coming into the state from other parts of the country, also saw many key leaders of the party walking the 9.2kilometer distance from Maryland to Teslim Balogun Statdium in Surulere.

Led by former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who himself walked the distance on foot, the party members were joined by other party faithful, students, trader, artisans among others.

The walk which kicked off as early as 7.45 am after party supporters had started gathering from 7am at the Maryland round about, also had Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, Tinubu’s wife, Senator Oluremi, Sen. Gbenga Ashafa, APC vice presidential candidate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, APC governorship candidate in Lagos State, Akin Ambode and his running mate Oluranti Adebule, Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji among others also join in the walk.

Speaking to party supporters at the Teslim Balogun Stadium at the round off of the walk at about 3pm, Tinubu commended the people for their resilience for the walk, assuring them that their efforts will not be in vain.

According to him whatb the people were doing is in working to secure their future from a government that has failed in its responsibility to the people, “You must know that you are working for your future, when they changed the date from February 14 to March 28, they thought we will be wearied, but now we are marching for change, we are matching for common sense.”

Aregbesola who compared President Goodluck Jonathan to the Biblical Jonah who refused to deliver God’s message to the people of Nineveh, told the people that since Jonathan has failed in delivering on the mandate that God gave him for Nigerians, that it was time to vote him out.

She advised the people not to reject any money being offered them by members of the other political parties, “because it is your money, but collect their money and vote your conscience,” she said.

Speaking earlier, the coordinator of the walk and the Buhari/Osinbajo campaign coordinator in Lagos State, James Faleke noted that the Buhari/Osinbajo campaign has become a movement that many people are eager to identify with, adding that such was the reason for the massive turn out and nothing to do with financial inducement as the people came out willingly.

Faleke, who is also a member of the House of Representatives predicted that APC will win 26 states of the federation in the coming election, adding however that the party rejects and will reisit any further attempt to shift the election.
