Jonathan-Mark-and-Tambuwal

The long talked about decampment of the speaker of the house of representative, Malam Tambuwal which became a reality yesterday following official announcement by the Speaker of his decampment out of the PDP into the APC, according to information made available to 247ureports.com, had unsettled, and left the presidency in shock over the lukewarm reaction of the members of the house of representatives. The legislators were expected to immediately denounce the announcement in a quarrelsome manner to show solid allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] and to the presidency.

According to a competent source who spoke of the unfolding intrigues within the national assembly, the members of the House of Representatives – following the end of plenary session yesterday, discovered new information about other members of the House of Representatives who have already joined the All Progressive Congress [APC] in principle – but are yet to announce it. It was gathered the members will likely make their announcement to the public soon.

Particularly, 247ureports.com gathered that following the anticipated announcement, the PDP will suffer major loses. According to an aide of a principal officer in the legislative chamber, the PDP may not be able to gather up two thirds of the lawmakers at the lower chamber of the national assembly to remove the Speaker from the top seat – once the members announce their decampment. The political demography of the house of representative is expected to be significantly altered to the advantage of the APC.

The source adds that announcement will be timed to deflate the presidential sail to 2015 campaign. “The APC have offered them automatic return tickets, mainly the northern legislators”, said the source who went on to explain that a majority of the PDP legislators at the lower chamber are not with the PDP. He claims the PDP legislators from northern extraction have only been waiting for the Speaker to lead the way in announcing his official membership of the APC. He explains that many within them have already began work with APC structures in their various states.

Should Tambuwal Step Down?

He adds that the Presidency appears shocked by the sudden clarity of the pending mass decampment. A source close to the presidency claims the handlers of the President are unsure the extent to which Tambuwal’s announcement and the lukewarm reaction of the legislators – reflects a grander plan on the part of the legislators. The President fears that the APC might have saved the best for last – that the APC might have opted to have its members stay put in PDP uniforms till the last moment when they will decamp in mass numbers to embarrass the PDP and the President.

Feelers from within the presidency point to the silence by lawmakers as signals indicative of foul play. 247ureports.com learnt of prior agreements and pledges reached between many of the legislators of northern extraction – concerning the upcoming 2015 presidential election. The President had expended a significant amount of time and resource ensuring an agreement was reached to enable a smooth campaign in the region. Our source indicates that the agreements may be threatened by the feared mass decampment out of PDP into APC.

Another source who claims to be in the know – pointed to General Olusegun Obasanjo’s influence on the APC and his soiled relationship with the PDP – as partly responsible for what appears the latest strategy by the APC lawmakers. The source claims the former dictator and former civilian president’s influence on the opposition informed the opposition not to “show their hand” early in the game. He claims that Obasanjo had impressed on some of the aggrieved PDP members to remain inside the PDP till it becomes certain that President Jonathan will seek for re-election.

Stay tuned as it unfolds…
