Police Nab 15 Suspects Over Fake Products In Aba

15 suspects have been arrested by the police in Abia state over the sale of fake foods and beverages at Cemetery market, Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state.

 

Addressing journalists in Aba, Director of Operations, Consumer Protection Council’s (CPC), Mr. Eko Godwin who led the policemen team said the raid is a routine exercise carried out to sanitize markets of fake and adulterated products.

 

He warned sellers and producers of fake and adulterated goods to desist from such acts as anyone caught matter how highly placed, would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Godwin who vowed to eliminate fake products in the markets‎, especially in Aba and Abia State, called on consumers to be vigilant and report suspected manufacturers and dealers on fake products to the agency.

 

“This is the second day of embarking on this exercise. 3 persons were arrested on the first day when we came here initially and about 12 persons were arrested on the second day. We want the public to be more vigilant and report dealers on fake and adulterated products to us.”

 

“The people we arrested today have been handed over to the police at Umuahia.  They will be charged to court when the police conclude their investigations.

“We will not relent in ensuring that consumers buy original and unadulterated beverages, even as we know that it is not going to be an easy task.”

 

He promised that the raid would be carried out more regularly than it has been to ensure that the dealers are dislodged from the markets in the city.

 

Abia State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ibrahim confirmed the arrest of the suspects, stressing that investigations are ongoing.
