As 2015 general elections zeros in, many elected office holders are about now taking stock of their stewardship in the last three [3] and half years, preparatory to seeking the mandates of those that elected them in the first place, either in their current capacity or in different offices.
For Senator Andy Uba, popularly called Igwebuike, showcasing his score card in the Senate in the period under review will not pose any problem to him as his achievements in the red chamber speak volumes. We, in Southeast Youth Leaders Forum having critically examined the performance of Senator Andy Uba in three areas, namely, Legislative contributions, which is his primary job as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Philanthropic gestures and service to humanity as well as Attraction of developmental infrastructures/ amenities to his constituency, Anambra South Senatorial District; came to the inevitable conclusion that he has indeed, shown effective representation.
In the area of Legislative Contributions, Senator Andy Uba scores above ninety percent in the last three and half years in office. According to our findings, he has sponsored a lot of progressive bills, sponsored and co-sponsored motions that will be beneficial to Nigeria generally. Between June and July in 2012, he sponsored two bills also. Among them is Delegated Legislation, Mentoring and Control bill 2012, SB173 ON June 6 2012. Bill for an act to amend the corrupt practices and other related offences Act cap C31, LFN, 2010, has also gone through first reading. Famous among the motions he sponsored is the one that sought State burial and Immortalization of late Ikemba of Nnewi, Chief Odimegwu Ojukwu.
Our findings further revealed developmental projects Senator Andy Uba attracted from the federal government and those he executed directly. Among the projects is the provision of solar powered street light from Ekwulobia round about to Nkpologwu, Nkwo-Uga to Akokwa junction in Aguata council at the cost of N16 million. Also the one at Nnaka, Oko Ndikedionwu- Omogbo Ufuma- Ajali communities in Orumba North Local Government area which he attracted from government agency cost N13 million. Still on our findings, Senator Uba has attracted projects like school renovation at Ogbunka Technical College, Umunze. Construction of classroom blocks with VIP toilets and fencing of Community High School at Nawfia. Solar street light at Isulo, Ezeria and Umunze all in Orunba South LGA, all costing from N5 million and N10 million respectively. In Ihiala LGA axis, communities like Mgbachi-Uli,Okija Ubahaekwem- Ihiala, Ufuma Okija and Iseke and Orumba North Axis in Anambra South District benefited either from schools rehabilitation or provision of Borehole for clean water drinking.
In the area of humanitarian gestures, so far, Senator Andy Uba has awarded scholarship to more than 200 indigent students from secondary to the tertiary levels under Philip Uba Foundation in memory of his late father. The widows in the district have also benefited from Igwebuike’s magnanimity in the area of financial empowerment. More of these are said to be in the offing.
In recognition and appreciation of Senator Andy Uba’s giant strides in Anambra South Senatorial Zone, a powerful group from the State deemed it worthy to confer an award of excellence and service to humanity on him recently in Lagos.
Arising from the plethora of commendations coming to Senator Andy Uba on account of purposeful and effective representation he is given at the National Assembly, laced with his unparallel humanitarian gestures, we, in South East Youth Leaders Forum believe that he deserves re- election come 2015 to continue the wonderful work he is doing, despite distractions from desperate political opponents and bad losers.
