Prof. Sani Dangoggo, the Vice-Chancellor, Sokoto State University, has urged matriculating students of the institution to imbibe good character.

Dangoggo gave the advice at the 2018/2019 matriculation of 2, 074 newly admitted students in the institution on Tuesday in Sokoto.

He said that no fewer than 13,000 candidates applied for admission into the university for the current academic session, urging the students to consider themselves lucky.

The vice-chancellor said the institution was known for its uncompromising and sustained policy of zero tolerance for indiscipline, cultism, examination malpractice and academic dishonesty.

“The university will not condone actions which contravene its regulations or behaviour that will portray the image of the university in a bad light.

“I urge the matriculating students to take their studies seriously, to enable them to graduate in flying colours and impact meaningfully on the society,” he said.

The professor advised the students to make out time to engage in sports and scholarly lectures, to enhance their academic performance.

According to him, the university has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with various institutions in the areas of staff development and students exchange.

He said the institutions include Zinder University, Niger Republic; Islamic University of Uganda; University of Lahore, Pakistan; and Kampala International University, Uganda.

Dangoggo said that 18 programmes had been fully accredited by the National Universities Commission, while the other five had partial accreditation.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, commended the institution for its progress and enjoined the students to concentrate on their studies, to be productive in the society.

Muhammad Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of other matriculating students, thanked God for the opportunity given them to study at the institution, promising to be law-abiding.

He called on the institution’s authorities to provide an enabling environment for the students by equipping the library adequately with books and research facilities.
