In a letter from the office of the Chairman of the Association of Allied International Beer & Beverage Drivers (AAIBBD), Nigeria dated March 13, 2019 titled ‘Promise on Rejected Returned Cans’ addressed to the Management of the International Breweries and made available to newsmen in Onitsha yesterday, the drivers union threatened that any further delay in the implementation on the alleged promise by the INTAFACT to address the issue would force the union to stop its members from conveying the problematic Cans to customers.

Parts of the letter read thus:”The Union is using this opportunity to register its displeasure over the continuous rejection of rejected returned Cans from customers’ outlet by its members (drivers). Please, revisit the promise you made on the 13th December, 2018 to that effect come 1st January, 2019.

“Again, the issue of missing bottles and empty shells are on the rise more. As a result, the Union is pressing for a hundred percent (100%) checks before load-out is made or alternative, the Management should employ the services of “Seals” on the doors of the Trucks which the Union also welcomes” the drivers stated.

“International Breweries are working on solution to improve load securement and improved packaging of our products to reduce breakages; we have decided to relook the current BIT allowance. This is to notify all our transporters that the BIT Allowance has been investigated and reviewed upward.

“The allowance per trip from 1st January, 2019 will now be 0.0015% of the load you are carrying, this gesture is to build a long-lasting partnership between International Breweries Limited and our Transporters”, the said
