Takai, Little, Doguwa Others Reject Kwankwasiyya-Led PDP Gov’ship Primary

Gubernatorial aspirants of the PDP in Kano State have rejected the just concluded primary election conducted by the Kwankwasiyya-led faction of the party.

Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the son in law to former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, yesterday emerged as the flag bearer of the of the party.

Also, aspirants for House of Assembly and House of Representatives rejected the Kwankwasiyya primaries, just as they threatened to leave the party if the national headquarters of failed to revisit the situation.

Former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau had since dumped the PDP for the APC on the grounds that Kwankwaso had taken over almost everything in the opposition party.

Addressing newsmen shortly after a meeting with aggrieved aspirants in Kano yesterday, the party’s state Chairman, Sen. Mas’ud El-Jibril Doguwa, described the Kwankwasiyya-led PDP faction’s primaries as “kangaroo and movie play.”

Doguwa warned that if PDP failed to address the issue amicably, the aggrieved aspirants would convene another meeting and decide their fate, noting that, “If PDP doesn’t need us, other political parties need us. In fact, some political parties have started consulting some of the aspirants.”

According to him, “We will wait and see if PDP repeats what it did in the gubernatorial primary today…It is going be disastrous for the party. For somebody to just wake up and say he will conduct primary election on his own, I am sure that person is dreaming. It has become clear that the return of politicians to PDP has turned to be disadvantage to the party.”

The chairman said happenings in the PDP would aid the ruling APC to retain power beyond 2019.

One of the House of Representatives aspirants, Alhaji Hamza Farouk Iya, said they were expecting the party’s national headquarters to come up with the list of aspirants and publicly announce the venue and time for the primaries.

Malam Salihu Sagir Takai, a gubernatorial aspirant of the PDP, also rejected the Kwankwasiyya primary election, saying, “I neither participated in it nor do I recognise it.

“The PDP national headquarters has communicated to us that the primary elections of Kano, Imo and Lagos states have been postponed and new dates would be fixed and communicated to us, but up till this time that I am talking to you, there is no official communication from the PDP headquarters regarding new date.”

Takai, who spoke through his spokesman, Auwal S. Mu’azu, said what happened at the Lugard House, headquarters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, was purely a Kwankwasiyya affair and not that of the PDP as a party.

Another gubernatorial aspirant of the party, Alhaji Ibrahim Al-Amin Little, also rejected the primary, lamenting that due process was not followed.
