The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue Council has immortalized its late Chairman, Mr David Ukuma, by renaming its conference hall, Hall of Fame, after him.

A communiqué issued at the end of its extraordinary congress held on October 8th, and made available to newsmen Friday, in Makurdi.

The communiqué was signed by the Chairman of the Drafting Committee, Mr Emmanuel Gwaza, and Secretary, Mr Jerry Tyosaseh, states that ”The Congress formally renamed the Press Conference Hall as “David Ukuma Hall of Fame” as a way of immortalizing him because he died in active service”.

Recalls that Ukuma was elected chairman of the Benue council on July 3 and he died on August 25th, barely two months after his election.

The communiqué also stated that the congress recommended the lifting of suspension on Mr Terlumun Nyifan and Mr Henry Ibya who were suspended from the union since 2011.

”The council has resolved to lift the suspension placed on two of its members, Mr Terlumun Nyifan and Henry Ibya following their apologies to the union.

”The congress unanimously recommended that the two members who have been on suspension for the past seven years be granted pardon.

“Congress directed the State Working Committee to communicate same to the NUJ National Secretariat for final approval”.

It further commended Governor Samuel Ortom for ensuring that Ukuma was given a befitting burial and also thanked him for sponsoring the Benue delegates to the just concluded NUJ National Delegates Conference which was held in Abeokuta.

It also commended the Special Adviser on Media and ICT, Mr Tahav Agerzua and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Terver Akase, for standing by the union at all times.
