Kano Gov’t Spends Billions Of Naira On Primary, Secondary Education – Gov. Ganduje
Loading ...Kano State Government has spent billions of Naira, in the past three years, on the construction of several classroom blocks and hostels in primary as well as regular secondary, Science and Boarding schools across the state.
The state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, announced this during the formal flag-off of the distribution of Instructional Materials, Commissioning of 2015 Sustainable Development Goals/Conditional Grant Scheme Projects and launching of Donor Coordination Frame Work in the State.
Governor Ganduje further disclosed that his administration succeeded in “the supply of instructional materials and fabrication of thousands of chairs and tables worth millions of Naira, to facilitate result-oriented teaching and learning, in fulfillment of the promises made during our electioneering campaign in 2015”.
“Our efforts in this direction have gone a long way in expanding access to education for our children. More children now go to school than before so we will not relent in providing the necessary infrastructure, funding, learning materials and personnel that will result in better learning outcomes in our state”.
He added, “It is our resolve to ensure that our people are provided with necessary and much needed infrastructures for the betterment of all that is why Kano State Government and the Federal government are collaborating in executing various sustainable development projects in the State, through counterpart funding”.
Dr. Ganduje, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna therefore, urged heads of public schools in the state to make judicious use of the materials provided, adding that all the schools will receive a fair share of the items without delay.
He maintained that through collaborative effort, over N4billion was spent recently on the construction of Solar power Project at Gwagwarwa Primary Health Centre, funded by the E.U. through the DFID.
The governor explained that the move was an effort by the two parties to address global challenges related to health, poverty, climate change, peace and justice, prosperity and environmental degradation.
He reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Government to partner with the domestic and international donors in its effort to meet the yearnings and aspirations of people.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hajiya Aishatu Jafar explained that the sustainable Development Goals/Conditional Grant Scheme is a joint Project between the Federal Government and Kano State Government through payment of 50 percent each counterpart funding, totaling N1.2 billion.
She disclosed that over 200 Schools across the State would benefit from the distribution of the instructional materials, in line with the priority given by the Ganduje administration to the education sector.
