Anambra Monarch Canvases House Of Assembly Seat
The traditional ruler of Igbariam community in Anambra East Local Government Area, Eze Nkeli Nzekwe has urged the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to zone the Anambra East state Assembly seat to his town.
Nzekwe made the call in an interview with newsmen at his Igbariam palace on Wednesday.
The monarch said since the creation of the state 27 years ago, no citizen of the area had occupied any political seat both at the state and National assemblies as well as appointed as commissioner.
According to him, out of the 10 towns that make up the state constituency, only Igbariam and Umuoba-Anam are yet to be elected into any seat.
The 10 towns that make up the local government area are Umueri, Aguleri, Otuocha, Enugwu Aguleri, Eziagulu Otu Aguleri, Enugu Otu Aguleri, Umuoba Anam, Igbariam, Nando, Nsugbe.
“In terms of seniority, it is the turn of Igbariam to present a candidate to represent the people in the state assembly.
“We are a university town and we have the biggest poultry farm as well as many farm settlements.
“We should therefore be given the House of Assembly slot to appease the community after 27 years of marginalization,” Nzekwe said.
On the incumbent legislator, Mr Obinna Emanaka from Nando community, the monarch said he only supported him for the House of Representatives seat and not the state assembly seat.
He noted that the state assembly seat had earlier been zoned to Igbariam by APGA, expressing worry that it was about to be changed.
Nzekwe also said a citizen of the town, Mrs Ngozi Okoye, who was appointed Special Adviser on Oil and Gas by the governor was relieved of her appointment within a short period.
“This has devoid Igbariam of the only appointee in government.
“I have tried to see the governor and his wife about the issue but unfortunately, my efforts met a brick wall.
“I therefore plead with the governor, APGA and other political parties to zone the Anambra East House of Assembly seat to Igbariam,” the monarch pleaded.
He stressed that the community had no plans to protest or carry placards to Government House.
According to him, we are responsible citizens who only want the governor and the party to do the needful.
