EFCC Arrests Staff for Corruption

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reiterated its zero tolerance for corruption and continual drive to fight the malaise within and outside the Commission.
Zonal Head of Maiduguri office, Aminu Ado Aliyu, who briefed the press today, January 23, 2018, also said the zone has secured two convictions and made several recoveries in the month of January.
He also said that through internal checks, the Commission has been weeding out the bad ones amongst its staff.
According to Aliyu, “On Friday the 19th of January, 2017, this Zonal office through intelligence from one of its suspect under investigation, informed the office that someone posing as a staff of the Commission intimated him on phone about a case under investigation involving him and the imposter promised to avail the suspect with the original case file on the condition for payment of money”
“During investigation, a staff of the Commission one Detective AssistantHabila Dungji Buba and his girlfriend Keron Ayuba Lapips were arrested while trying to make an exchange of the said case file. Buba revealed to the team of investigators that oneSgt. Bashir Muhammad a police officer attached to the Maiduguri Zonal office gave him the case file and also guided him on how to carry out the exchange”.
Investigation in to the matter is still ongoing and more facts will be unveiled soon.  
The Zonal Head urge the general public to report any of the Commission’s staff who demands for financial assistances in an effort to interfering with investigation. Also, the public should report any corrupt practices perpetrated by individuals or organisations within Maiduguri and Yobe States respectively.
“The fight against corruption is a collective responsibility, everybody is a partner. Let’s join hands and fight corruption” Aliyu stated.
