The leadership of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), led by its chairman, Comrade Edozie Emmanuel Tuesday resumed its last year suspended strike, chased and locked out the house speaker, Mr. Monday Igbuya, principal officers and members from the Assembly complex following the unabated welfare dispute between the Assembly workers and the house leadership.

PASAN leadership, after announcing the resumption of its strike, went and placed the entrance gate of the complex under lock and key with a vow to continue with the strike action until their demands are met.

It would be recall that following the welfare dispute, a member of the Union and the house speaker, Mr. Igbuya had a physical brawl which attracted the public.

All official activities of the house were crippled as house members could not gain access into the complex to perform their legislative duties while vehicular and human movements within the complex were totally grinded to a halt.

Speaking with Journalists, the PASAN Chairman, Comrade Edozie Emmanuel accused the speaker and the legislators of insensitivity and selfishness adding that while the legislators get their allowances and entitlements with ease, the entitlements of the workers is not of any important to the house.

“The Speaker is insensitive and adamant to our requests and plight of the workers. He does not answer his calls whenever we call him. All is not well in the Delta State House of Assembly. For minor work that the workers are employed to do, they prefer to bring in outsiders to come and do them. We are not calling of this strike until our demands are fully met. We shall continue to press home our demands.” the Union chairman stated.

However, in a bid to avoid any break down of law and order, the Delta state House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture & Natural Resources Thursday shamefully relocated its activities to a different location outside the Assembly complex for the public hearing of the proposed Nomadic Cattle Rearing Control Bill, 2016 for inputs from stakeholders and the general public.

Delivering his speech, Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Evance Ivwurie stated that the public hearing on the bill is to get the views of stakeholders in the state as the bill seeks to address the abnormality in cattle rearing business in the state. For the sponsor of the Bill and a member of the Committee Comrade Reuben Izeze, the bill seeks to protect the lives of Deltans and residents of Delta State so that those who want to do business will do business within the ambit of the law as well as regulate the activities of herdsmen.

The public hear which held at the James Ibori Hall, Labour House (NLC), Asaba was attended by several interest groups with contributions from the Delta State Traditional Council, Urhobo Security Network, Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Bar Association, Nigeria Christian Association, Nigeria Police Force, Miyettin Allah, Value Rebirth, Ossissa Patriots, Anioma Peoples Development Think Tank, Aradhe Development Union, Uwheru Development Union, Onu Ika Nigeria and Anioma Security Watch Network among others.
