EFCC Press Release

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arraigned the trio of Nasiru Inuwa Illelah, Muhammad Adamu Gana and Adamu Yunus , Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer respectively of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Services Technical and Recreation Services Employees, Hospital Management Board, before Justice Rabi T. Umar of the Bauchi State High Court, Bauchi on charges bordering on fraudulent conversation of the sum of N6,000,000:00 and issuance of dud cheques.

The accused persons, sometime in January, 2016, obtained 600 bags of rice valued at N6million from the complainant with the promise that payment will be made over a two months period through direct deductions from staff of a local council that were touted as beneficiaries.

In soliciting his trust, the complainant was issued two post dated Sterling Bank cheques for 5th February, 2016 and 5th March, 2016 which were separately lodged and returned unpaid owing to insufficient fund in the account.

All efforts to get the accused persons to pay back the money were futile as they were eventually found to have diverted the goods elsewhere for their personal benefit.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the six count charge. Justice Rabi adjoined the case to November 9, 2016 for hearing on bail applications and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.
