Police in Enugu Sunday confirmed the killing of a 41 year old man Francis Okonkwo Uzo who was alleged to have killed his wife, Mrs. Ozoemena Uzo at Nchatancha Emene in Enugu East council area of Enugu State last Friday, by mob.

Late Uzo was said to have been residing in the area with his family  until recently when he  began to suspect his wife of having an extra-marital affair with another  man in the area.

Sources said the man returned home on Thursday and suspected that the wife’s lover came into their matrimonial home and made love to her while he was away.

Filled with anger as he was not satisfied with his wife’s denial, the man picked his sharp machete and butchered the woman, who gave up the ghost instantly.

Angry neighbours, who heard what, happened rushed to the scene and seeing the lifeless body of the woman in a pool of blood, constituted themselves to a mob and gave the killer husband the beating of his life.

It was gathered that the man died hours later as he could not survive the torture by the mob.

Policemen from Emene Division, who were alerted by the residents, arrived later and took the two corpses to the mortuary, said the source.

The state police spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, however, confirmed the incident when contacted on phone.

The PPRO in a statement issued Sunday said “the husband of the deceased/alleged murderer of wife was already in coma and could not talk before the arrival of the security operatives hence he was promptly rushed to Annunciation Hospital Emene for medical attention and was later confirmed dead.

“The two dead bodies of wife and husband are already deposited at the hospital mortuary of the Annunciation Hospital Emene.

“Meanwhile, full scale investigations have commenced into the unfortunate incident by the operatives of the Homicide sections of the state criminal intelligence and Investigations Department of the Enugu state command of the Nigeria Police Force”.
