The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC has disconnected electricity power at the national Headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over N1.7 million debt.

The situation has gotten to a stage where junior officers now gather money to buy diesel to power generator for few hours daily

One of the staff told inquisitive newsmen that the disconnection was made since two week leaving the party running on diesel.

Also, another party source explained that the Electricity Distribution Company’s bill is lying on the table of the party’s National Treasurer, Alhaji Muhammed Gwagwarwa because of lack of money.

Among the sources, none was able to state how many months the party is owing that amounted to the N1.7 million.

The Distribution Companies have decried high profile debts ranging to tens of billions of naira.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN who is a chieftain of APC, had argued severally, that every government agency must pay its electricity  bill for it to enjoy power.

According to him, the Power Sector has been privatized and are being running by private entities who have invested money into the sector and for them to continue in the business and provide service, they must recoup their investment and make profits.

Also, the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC had emphasized the prompt payment of electricity bills as a prerequisite for improvement in power supply.

The APC national headquarters has generated over N250 million this year from the sale of Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for the Edo and Ondo States governorship primaries.

The AEDC Headquarters located at Wuse Zone 4 is a few meter away from the Headquarters of APC.
