Being the president of Nigeria, A faith-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Rebuilders, has threatened to drag President Muhammadu Buhari and the federal government to court if solution is not provided to the several killings of Christians in the country.

The group, however, called on the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of State Security Service (SSS) to do everything possible to unravel the brains behind the killing of Mrs. Eunice Elisha, a preacher who was murdered Kubwa area of Abuja recently.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, coordinator of the NGO, Pastor Mrs. Esther Ibanga, said the gruesome murder of innocent and unsuspecting Christians in some part of the country was becoming a daily occurrence, warning that if nothing is done urgently such is capable of throwing the country into full-blown uprising and total confusion.

“We have paid condolence visit to the family of Mrs. Eunis and we grieved deeply into what has happened not only to her family it affects the church in general and the country as a whole. More particularly the fact that she is a woman makes it more gruesome.

“We have written and we are calling the attention of the Inspector general of Police to bring the perpetrators to book. We are watching keenly and any failure to bring these assailants to book will propel us to take the next step, we will take legal redress and do everything possible within the limit of the law to make sure that justice is done.”

While making reference to section 38 (1) of the country’s constitution which guarantee freedom of religion, pastor Ibanga said: “the heartless killing of of Mrs. Eunis Elisha, who is a mother of seven children, does not only display an open violation of the constitution but smacks of religious intolerance and the use of extreme unnecessary violence to silence innocent  Christians across the country.

“The federal government and its security agencies must rise to the occasion by upholding the provisions of the constitution and bringing to an end these ugly trends, in the interest of the country.

The group declared that “these killings must not be swept under the carpet in anyway. The general public is interested in the outcome of investigations and proper prosecution of offenders.”
