Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has accused Dr. Uche Ogah of desperation to be sworn in as governor and seeking immunity against 12 impending criminal charges against him in various Court in Lagos State.

Ikpeazu stated this at a press briefing at Government House, Umuahia,  said, “we are baffled by the urgency and the desperation to bounce into the government and when put it side by side with the various criminal charges which borders on different kinds of things which are subsisting in various Court in Lagos State against this same person, it becomes a little bit clearer why the desperation in the first place, probably just to get a veil of immunity just to run away from the certainty of the Court decision for or against him as it were.”

The governor insisted that Nigerian democracy is on trial, and not him as a person, but  the will of the people of Abia State.

On the allegation of forging is tax papers, Ikpeazu said he has been working for the government who deducts his tax and reconciles it with the Board of Internal Revenue.

“Everyone knows that I have working for government in this environment, my last duty post was the Abia State Environmental Protection agency and for anybody to say that I have problems with my tax, it will be strange to our people, because they know I was working for the government and the government was paying me.

“The Board of Internal Revenue whose duty it is to excess and levy tax has come had come out with the document and said it was issued by them. I want to assure the people that this illegality will not stand because I will test it through the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.”

He expressed surprise that INEC went ahead to issue certificate of return to Ogah when he had filed a notice of appeal and a motion on stay of execution on the judgment.
