Teachers at the Anglican Girls Grammar School (AGGS), Asaba Diocese are presently gnashing their teeth over poor salaries and insensitiveness by the Asaba Diocesan Education Board, while the chairman of the Board, Prof. Godwin Nduka, has decided to use horse whip on teachers even as he makes clandestine move to divert students monies into his private pockets, 247ureports.om can authoritatively report.

Investigations carried out by our correspondent revealed that the Bishop of Asaba Diocese (Anglican Communion), Rt. Reverend Justus Mogekwu, had promised teachers good pay of N45, 000, good working condition among other benefits but Prof. Nduka armed twisted the Bishop from fulfilling his promises to the teachers.

It was gathered that Bishop Mogekwu promised to increase teachers’ salaries when the Diocese held her Synod in the month of May, but it was learnt that teachers were shocked to their bone marrows when they receive their May salaries without any increment.

Our finding shows that the salaries of teachers who have been working in the school in the last three to four years remains N25, 000 for graduates of B.sc while NCE receives N22, 000 without any increment especially in the face of the current difficult times, while their counterpart in Ughelli Diocese receives N35, 000 as salaries, it was reliably learnt.

A staff that was transferred from the Bishop’s Court to the school, one Mrs. F. Okafor, rejected the initial N25, 000 salary until it was increased to N27, 000, while others who got employment recently still receives N25, 000 alongside with those that have spent over three years in the school.

According to checks, Nduka told Mogekwu that there was no job anywhere therefore, the teachers would gladly take up the job without complaint.

It was also gathered that the Diocesan Accountant, Reverend Canon Henry Oniawah, has also joined the clandestine move to rob the teachers of their entitlements, while he has turned students into conduit pipes to fill his pockets to the detriment of the students.

It was reliably learnt that the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) had donated a well-equipped Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre to the school for student to upgrade their computer knowledge but Oniawah hired the services of a private computer operator, Rexous (Nig) Limited where students of the school running over 1000 pays the sum of N3, 000 per term to be taught computer literacy as he (Oniawah gets his own cut from the arrangement.

Findings have also unearth that the school lacks Biology, Physics and Chemistry laboratories as the present laboratories are dilapidated without the management making any move to renovate or build new one considering the exorbitant school fees the students are paying.

Checks revealed that students at admission pays for school bus but since 2012 till date, the school has not provided school bus to convey the students to and or from school.

It was also gathered that the security situation in the school is nothing to write home about as it is been marred by old men who do not have the courage to withstand eventualities in the case of such occurrences while the hostel has no fencing not to talk of a peripheral one as the hostel is situated behind the school while grasses have over grown the school environment.

Also, the corrupt board has told the school that it would not be able to provide diesel to power the generator to give power supply to the boarders who from time to time used candle sticks and other form of light to read especially now that the Junior School Certificate is to begin tomorrow (Monday) and to last for the next two weeks.

The Asaba Diocesan Education Board has also paid deaf ears to the school’s Parent/Teachers Association (PTA) from operating their own account even as the Board has turned the school’s principal, Lady V.I Odiakusa to a toothless bulldog and a mere figure head who lacks the will powers to take decisions as it affects the welfare of teachers, security of students among others as she takes directives from the so-called unscrupulous board that have sat on the need for the PTA to operate an account.
