… Okowa Has Sent Our Son To Die In The Creeks, Gbaramatu Raises Alarm

A scribe of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Godspower Gbenekama has declared that 2019 election in the state would tell the position of Gbaramatu people if the Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr) Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, continues to keep quiet over their plights.

The Gbaramatu chief also accused Okowa of plans to kill their son, the Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Bururtu Otuaro by sending him to the creeks among others to die while Gbaramatu is mercilessly been destroyed and its people been massacre by the military after he got the support of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, Alias Tompolo.

Chief Gbenekama who is also the Bebemowie (Mobilizer) of Gbaramatu Kingdom made the declaration in a chat with newsmen, wondering why Governor Okowa would continue to remain quiet over perceive “injustice, harassment, intimidation and embarrassment meted on them by the Nigerian army.

It was gathered that Tompolo sponsored Okowa during the governorship campaign and the party’s primaries with the sum of $2 million dollars.

Chief Gbenekama said, “I want to also say Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa rode on the back of Gbaramatu people into the Government House because of our son. He is the Chief Security Officer of the State, if he continues to keep quiet and the people who voted for him are mercilessly destroyed and killed and he is keeping quiet, sending his Deputy to go and die with his people, while he keeps quiet. The Deputy Governor and all those that are in the committee are children of the Niger Delta. They are children of Gbaramatu and Itsekiri Kingdom. So, ordinarily if they come visiting we will listen to them. We will talk to them. They were going to succeed and I think they can still succeed if the Federal Government takes up from where the committee ended”.

The scribe accused the military of looting Oporoza Guest House, carting away two gun boats belonging to the Gbaramatu Traditional Council as well as molest, intimidate and shoot sporadically at indigenes of Oporoza on their arrival at about 11: 55 pm on SaturdayNight.

He said the military’s action of raping women and girls has continued unabated, noting that the looting was still ongoing at Oporoza Community just as he warned that as long as the Federal Government continues to “concentrate, victimize, destroy and kill the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom, more militants bodies would rise up, stressing that it would be difficult for the government to cope with the situation.

While calling on the Federal Government to come to the rescue of Gbaramatu people, Chief Gbenekama enjoined the government to stop playing the scripts of certain individuals and beam its searchlights on the Niger Delta Avengers who allegedly blew up pipelines in Bayelsa State same time and day the military allegedly invaded Oporoza, headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom, “If they want to succeed, they should look elsewhere and not concentrate on Gbaramatu”, he said.

Chief Gbenekama claimed that those arrested during the invasion of the community are not members of the militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers saying, “The military have gotten it wrong again. The military have got it wrong. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to prove it because every Ijaw man is an Avenger. If they arrest me today, Chief Godspower Gbenekama the Secretary of the Gbaramatu Traditional Council, I will be an Avenger. I was able to scream and people were able to listen just because, these guys were having Chevron Identity Cards in their pockets.  Their names were in Chevron’s payroll and they knew that we will take it to any level. We can provide evidence.  That is why they released them on condition that they should be reporting every day. Even though they saw that they have goofed, they have wanted the people to report every day.  So, the people are reporting every week.  These are not Niger Delta Avengers. These are innocent citizens of Oporoza who were arrested. I don’t know how many. As it is now, people in Oporoza cannot even open their doors to go out. So how do you know how many that has been arrested? He asked.

The one you call, his telephone lines is not going or the wife answers, my husband has been taken ooo it is only that one that you know that has been taken. So, the guest house in Oporoza has become a prison yard and turned to an army barrack for the Nigerian Army to operate. It is unfortunate, they have arrested the wrong people. These people are not Avengers. The ones that they mentioned that I know, that they said they have arrested, they are not Avengers.  Avengers are not in Gbaramatu.”

He also called on indigenes to report criminal elements to the leaders of Gbaramatu Kingdom as well as keep and maintain peace and be law abiding with the military even in the face of provocation from the military.
