A female member of House of Representatives, Honourable Joan Marakpor was on Wednesday assaulted and battered by the security detail attached to the Comptroller-General of Nigerian PrisonĀ  Peter Ekpendu at the National Assemble Complex.

Narrating how the odious act took place, the Minority leader of the House of Representatives, Honourable Leo Ogor said, the battered member was driving within the National Assembly complex when her vehicle overtookĀ  the over 20-car convoy of the Comptroller-General of Prison.

Ogor further narrated that, the Security detail attach to Ekpendu rushed to the Hnourable member, stopped her car and assaulted the member by slapping her on her face while the Comptroller-General washed his boys perpetrated the evil act.

Meanwhile the House of Representatives on Thursday, summoned the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Prison Service, NPS Peter Ekpendu to appear before its Committees on Interior and Police Affairs over an alleged assault of a member, Joan Marakpor.

Marakpor was slapped by an officer of the NPS for allegedly not giving way to the convey of Comptroller-General, of the NPS at the National Assembly on Wednesday, April 20.

In a order of privilege which culminated into a motion by the Minority Leader of the House, Leo Ogor, said the assault of the member was in breach of Section 16 of their House rules.

While describing the scenario as embarrassing to the National Assembly, Ogor said in the spirit of fair hearing the Comptroller-General should be made to appear before its committees to explain to it why he should not be relieved of his duty.

Contributing to the matter, House Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila said when he spoke to Marakpor she was crying.

“I’m not interested in the issue of fair hearing, he is guilty of assault, battery, bodily harm and violence against women, “he said.

He suggested that the House amend its rules to only accommodate the President’s convey to the National Assembly.

Gbajabiamila added that any other government official should only be allowed into the Assembly’s premises with just a car and an orderly.

The House adopted the motion after it was put to a voice vote by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.

The Committee is to report back to the House on Tuesday, April 26.

Several call put to the spokesman of the Comptroller-General of Prison to hear his side of the story, was not answered as at the time of filing this report.
