According to Mazi Obi [Mbuze Agulu] who had served under the Peter Obi administration as a special adviser, confirmed to 247ureports.com that Chief Peter Obi had made the public announcement in Agulu yesterday. Mbuze Agulu who also hails from Agulu town indicated that Chief Peter Obi had made the announcement at a meeting called at the residence of one Daniel Ogbuefi located near the popular St. Peter Anglican Church.

Mbuze Agulu informed our correspondent that the meeting was summoned by the former Governor at the residence of Daniel Ogbuefi. The purpose of the meeting was not made public until the meeting commenced at about 4:30pm on Saturday late afternoon. Minutes into the meeting, the former governor took the floor to announce to the gathered political class that he has decided to join the race. He made it open for the first time since the rumored news for his joining the race.

Upon hearing the news, the reaction was mixed. The Uche Ekwunife group immediately stood and staged a walk out – while angrily indicating that Chief Peter Obi has succeeded in betraying their principal. One of the more vocal ones told the gathering that Peter Obi has always walked against Uche Ekwunife from behind close doors in the same manner he did to the late Dora Akunyili – when she tried unsuccessfully to contest for the same Senatorial seat.

According to Mbuze Agulu, the “meeting scattered” following Peter Obi’s announcement. Mbuze Agulu went on to add that Peter Obi then released N1million cash to the gathering. Some within the group collected the money while the Uche Ekwunife’s walked away from the money.

Mbuze Agulu – who now works with the Willie Obiano administration – went to point out that Chief Peter Obi wants to deceive the people of Agulu again. “We all know about the twenty one Sienna miniVans parked at the Agulu town hall. We know the story behind it. Soon we will exposed it“.  He went on to ask that the people of Anambra central disregard Peter Obi and follow the present performing governor [Willie Obiano] and the best candidate for Senate [Victor Umeh]. “Peter Obi will not fool us again

Some of Peter Obi’s kinsmen expressed concern over Peter Obi’s announcement particularly since Peter Obi had told them earlier that he will no longer contest for elective office again – that he had retired from elective politics. Some of his kinsmen posed the question to him, according to Mbuze Agulu, but the former governor was not forthcoming with an answer convincing enough for the kinsmen.

Chief Peter Obi’s latest announcement to join the fray comes on the heels of accusations of having a hand in the recent arrest of Chief Victor Umeh by the agents of the Department of Security Services [DSS]. Although Chief Peter Obi was quick to deny having any hand in the arrest, the Victor Umeh group has continued to raise the noise decibel on the allegations against Peter Obi.

Chief Victor Umeh was recently arrested by the agents of DSS over allegations of sponsoring the Biafra agitators. The agents of the DSS claimed to have received a petition alleging Victor Umeh had strong ties with the Biafra group. The DSS did not however disclose the source of the petition.
