A man believed to be in his late 20s has been found dead hanging on a rope in an open shop at the Ngwa road market, Aba, Abia state.
Following the discovery, traders at the area where the incident took place closed shop fearing police arrest as they gathered in clusters discussing the development.
As at the time of filing this report, the traders and sympathizers at the scene were baffled on how the deceased got in to the area located behind an Army checkpoint without being noticed.
“We are shocked at this incident. How could the man get to this point even with the soldiers stationed here and commit this act? The police should look into this; is it possible that he committed suicide or that someone strangled him and hanged him to make it look like he took his own life?”a sympathizer asked rhetorically.
One of the shop owners in the area said; said; “Look at the height of the shop where the body was hung and tell me if it was this high and the woods enough to carry the weight of this young man. For me, I think that the boy was strangled to death somewhere and his body dragged to this place and hung as if he committed suicide. From the boy’s look, you can see that he is either he is a cart pusher or one of these homeless boys in the town. It is unfortunate that none of the traders or sympathizers have been able to identify him.”
A team of policemen later arrived the area and removed the corpse from where it hanged.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, DSP Ezekiel Udeviotu Onyeke, said he was yet to get details of the incident.
