The Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and Deputy Governorship candidate of the party in Ebonyi state in the 2015 general election, Chief Jerry Obasi today (Wednesday) remanded in Abakaliki federal prisons for alleged N1 million fraud.
This when he was unable to meet up with his bail condition made by the court.
The state police command had on Tuesday charged him to court for advanced fee fraud.
The APGA chieftain was arraigned in Magistrate court 1 sitting in Abakaliki for allegedly defrauding one Peter Udude of one million naira.
After the charges were read to his understanding by the Police Prosecutor, Ransome Egenkonye, Obasi pleaded not guilty.
The trail Magistrate granted him bail. One of the bail conditions is that one of his sureties must be a state Director with a landed property.
But Obasi was unable to meet the bail condition Wednesday leading to his remand in Abakaliki federal prison.
Chief Obasi who was the immediate past state chairman of the Party was picked up by the Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
It was gathered that Obasi allegedly collected N1m from Mr Peter Udude, the Ebonyi North senatorial aspirant of APGA in the 2015 general election in agreement to rectify the electoral challenges facing Udude in the last general election.
Udude’s name was said to have been omitted from the list of senatorial candidates short listed by INEC ahead of the elections and needed to rectify it, hence, he gave Obasi the money.
But Obasi despite receiving the N1m failed to fulfill his own part of the agreement, thereby dashing the senatorial ambition of Mr Udude.
The case was adjourned to April 9 for further hearing.
