Tricycle riders in Asaba, the Delta State capital, on Wednesday, thumbs down for Delta State Government over the poor execution of road and drainage projects in Asaba, the state capital.
One of the riders who spoke with 247ureports.com, Dele Adelokan, bemoaned the pace of development in Asaba, saying that despite Delta is the richest oil producing states in the country, development was yet to make inroad into the state capital.
Adelokan, who was conveying passengers through the Okpanam Road housing the State House of Assembly complex and quarters for the legislators, said for three democratic regimes, Delta State government was still battling with constructing drainages in the state capital, thereby exposing residents to massive flooding when the rains begin to pour.
According to him, “I came to stay in Asaba in March this year, when I was in Kaduna if anybody had told me that Asaba is bad like this I wouldn’t have accepted it. Look at it, two regimes gone now in the third one, Delta is still battling with constructing drainages, no good road anywhere. There are no good buildings that one can find in a city besides hotels that are spread everywhere. It’s a shame”!
Another rider, James Obi, took the state government to the cleaners, saying there is so much lies on the part of the government officials, noting that the excuse of no enough money for projects was an attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of the people of Delta State.
Obi, who compared Delta with Rivers, though older than Delta in terms date of creation, condemned the caliber of contractors being employed by Delta State Government in the execution of projects in the state.
He said though the All Progressive Congress (APC) was on the jugular of the state government, the Nyesom Wike’s administration is employing Julius Berger Construction Company to execute projects that would meet the taste of the people and give the city a befitting landscape.
