Facts emerging from the suspension of two members of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Johnson Erijo, representing Isoko South 2 and Princess Pat Ajudua, Oshimili North, are indicative that powerful forces played significant background roles in the scenario that unfolded on the floor of the House on Tuesday.
The House presided over by Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya as Speaker, Tuesday, slammed a three month suspension on the two members for what it described as desecration of the House, a term which was later understood to mean attempting an impeachment plot against the Speaker of the House.
The motion for the suspension was moved by Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Tim Owefere, Isoko North and seconded by Minority Leader, Hon. Festus Okoh, representing Ika South State Constituency in the House of Assembly.
But sources close to the State House, Wednesday, revealed that the suspension of the two members was quickly executed to avert the impeachment plot against the Speaker and other Principal Officers of the House by some members who were interested in assuming leadership of vital positions in the House.
According to the source, nine members of the House, had, during the House members training in the United States of America, had a meeting from which it was agreed that the House leadership be changed and position themselves in the juicy positions.
”What happened in the House on Tuesday was a result of a botched impeachment plot. Some of the members had a separate meeting when they were on training in the United States and there the law makers perfected a plan to change the leadership of the House. They also held other meetings in Atlanta besides planning to impeach the Speaker,” the source said.
The source listed the lawmakers present at the meeting to include Hon. Peter Onwusanya, Hon. Reuben Izeze, Hon. Alphonsus Ojo, Hon. Angela Nwaka, and Hon. Azuka Azaka.  Others were Hon. Samuel Mariere, Hon. Johnson Erijo, Hon. Pat Ajudua and Hon. Denis Omovie
However, sensing the possibility of the impeachment move on Tuesday, Igbuya and his loyalists quickly handed a three month suspension for insubordination on Hon. Erijo and Pat Ajudua, for attempting impeachment plot against the speaker, an action which the House termed desecration of the hallowed chamber.
It was learned that the House suspended only Hon. Erijo and Pat Ajudua in order not to cause a public outcry and protests by their constituents as other lawmakers that were co-plotters are presumed to be in constant touch with their constituents who could protest the action and cause break down of law and order in the state.
It was learnt that the detection of the plot by the leadership of the House and knowledge of the consequences should the plot fail, other key players in the impeachment plot were forced to abandon the conspiracy midway.
Prior to their suspension, Ajudua, the Chief Whip of the House and Erijo, the former Deputy Majority Leader, were accused of incessantly fanning embers of discord between the Speaker and the other 28 members in the House and violating the extant laws guiding the House.
The source further said if the impeachment plot had sailed through, Mariere would have emerged Speaker; Onwusanya, Deputy Speaker, while Erijo would have become the Majority Leader as already perfected by the coup plotters.
Following the suspension of Hon. Erijo of Isoko South 2, members of his constituency are said to have been on warpath with Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Tim Owefere, Isoko North, whom they expect to protect his brother of Isoko South in the hallowed chambers.
But members of the constituency of Hon. Ajudua from Oshimili North are said to be engrossed in celebration as they have been displeased over the manner under which Ajudua was declared winner of the State Assembly elections.
