The hope of the Senator representing Abia South senatorial district, Chief Enyinnaya Abaribe to complete a third stint at the National Assembly, and possibly seek a fourth one,  is now hanging in the balance following today’s nullification of his victory by the National Assembly and Legislative Houses Election Tribunal sitting at Umuahia.

The tribunal headed by Justice Sabiyu Yahoza ruled that the election that brought Abaribe to the Senate was fraught with irregularities in his native Obingwa and ordered a rerun in two local governments; Obingwa and some areas of Ugwunagbo within a 90 day period.

Abaribe’s challenger, Chief Chris Nkwonta had petitioned the tribunal alleging that the senator and his supporters manipulated election results in Obingwa as he (Nkwonta) was leading with over 25,000 votes from the other five local governments when Abaribe’s thugs concocted 64,700 votes for him.

In an interview with newsmen, Nkwonta who described the tribunal’s verdict as a miscarriage of justice, said he should have been declared winner, stressing that the tribunal ought to have deducted the illegal votes and announce the winner.

Meanwhile, the tribunal affirmed the victory of the National Assembly candidates of the PDP at the March 28, 2015 election.

These candidates include Senator Mao Ohuabunwa representing Abia North; member representing Isuikwuato/ Umunneochi federal constituency, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejiocha; and her Ukwa federal constituency counterpart, Hon. Uzoma Abonta.

Others are Darlington Nwokocha representing Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South federal constituency; and his Arochukwu/ Ohafia federal constituency counterpart, Hon. Uko Nkole.

Ohuabunwa defeated both former Governor Orji Uzo Kalu of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA); and Chief David Bourdex Onuoha who ran under the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) platform.

Onuoha alleged that Ohuabunwa connived with INEC falsify the result of the election which he claimed to have won, but the tribunal held that the election was held in compliance with the electoral act.

He said that after the deductions and additions following the inflations   and deflations of votes scored by the candidates, Ohuabunwa’s final vote stood at 43,738 against Onuoha’s total score of 28,210 votes.

247ureporyts.com gathered that the petition by Kalu was struck out by the tribunal for lack of merit and incompetence.

Also, the tribunal dismissed the petition of the APGA candidate for Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South federal constituency, Hon. Chinenye Ike against Hon.  Nwokocha also for lack of merit.

The tribunal also dismissed the petition by Kennedy Adiele of APGA against the election of Uzoma Abonta for lack of evidence.

According to the tribunal Adiele failed to prove his petition against Abonta.
