Press Statement

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says the conflicting statements by Governor Chibuike Amaechi and the managements of the State Waste Management Agency and the State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) on the financial status of these government agencies are enough proof of a deliberate effort and conspiracy to destroy the State.

Alarmed by the degree of deceit and gang-up being employed by the outgoing Amaechi administration and these agencies in running down the State, the PDP chairman, Bro Felix Obuah in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Jerry Needam said it’s high time the agencies made public all that had transpired between them and Gov Amaechi that has necessitated the sudden nosedive of the State economy.

The State PDP chairman said the Rivers people can no longer contain the many lies of Amaechi and his public office holders who have of late started dishing out what look like self confessions of their inability to function because they were starved of their statutory funds.

Citing the recent revelations by the Managing Director of the RSSDA, Mr Noble Pepple and his State Waste Management Agency counterpart, Mr Ade Adeogun who blamed their ineptitude to work on lack of funds, Bro Obuah spotted a sharp contrast between their outburst and Amaechi’s bogus claim of effectively supplying all their needs for a successful execution of their responsibilities.

While the RSSDA Chief Executive, Mr Noble Pepple claimed his agency has not been able to meet up its obligations to the students of the State origin on overseas scholarship for about two years running on lack of funds, Mr Ade also said the State had inadvertently went back to a garbage city due to short of funds to pay its contractors and by extension, the scavengers responsible for packing the dirt off the streets.

The PDP State chairman, Bro Felix Obuah is therefore demanding to know the whereabouts of the huge sums of money amounting to over N200b and N100b to these agencies in the last two years respectively.

Another vital point to explain, according to Bro Obuah is why all of a sudden these agencies and many other government departments which had hitherto, corroborated Amaechi’s claim of using State funds judiciously have just decided to open up to their benefactor’s (Amaechi) lies and deceit barely few days to handover to a new administration.

It will therefore interest the Rivers people and the entire Nigerian citizens, the State PDP chairman remarked, only if all the Agencies’ directors tell where such monies are or what they were spent on, since Gov Amaechi claims he has always equipped them adequately for their jobs.

“This has indeed justified our cries and alarm that Amaechi had ulterior motives and was systematically pursuing a different agenda from providing leadership to the Rivers people and has nothing left to bequeath to the incoming government but penury.

This also explains why he wanted a stooge who would succeed him to cover the monumental fraud which he saw in Mr. Dakuku Peterside. We have indeed been vindicated”.
