A resolution passed by the Adamawa State House of Assembly that the
State Government should convey all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
back to their locality is being rebuffed, this is according to information available to 247ureports.com

Those resisting the resolution include the Adamawa State Government,
the IDPs themselves and the Police.

The State Assembly had caused a stir when it sat last Monday and in a
resolution asked the State Government to as a matter of urgency,
relocate the IDPs from the various camps back to their localities.

Some IDPs described the House resolution as callous, unfortunate and
in bad taste.
The resistance to the resolution is seen by many as the gimmick of
politicians who like to capitalize on every given situation.

John Adam is a resident of Michika and says “we oppose the resolution
because we also have lives hence no politician should sacrifice it for
gains”

According to John, we learnt from you pressmen how a youth from
Michika was arrested with PVCs and had said they were given to him by
the Area administrator of Garta/Futu hence there is need to be
cautious.

It would be recalled that the suspect told security operatives that
he was to go and distribute them to the owners who are hiding in the
mountains.

INECs Head of Public Affairs Mrs. Rifkatu Duku had then said it was
illegal to collect PVCs by proxy.

Meanwhile, spokesman to Governor James Bala Nggilari Chief Phineas P.
Elisha had on behalf of Government said there was no way a responsible
government will convey its citizens to a war zone without clearance
from the security.

As a result, government cannot risk the lives of its people based on
the resolution as passed by the State Assembly.

Also in a chat with newsmen on the resolution Police Public Relations
Officer Adamawa State Police Command DSP Othman Abubakar disclosed
that the IDPs can only be moved to their localities subject to
clearance from the military authorities.

Even though Michika and Madagali have been recaptured from the
Islamist Boko Haram, a mopping up operation is said to be going on in
these areas.
