Bauchi Assault On Jonathan: Arrested Youths [40] Write National Judicial Council In Protest

The assault on the presidential campaign train of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] by groups of youths in Bauchi State is said to be causing its share of uproar within certain circles in Bauchi. This is as the forty arrested youths allegedly responsible for the attack were detained and briefly sent to state prison – have begun to protest their treatment and supposed unlawful imprisonment by the law officials in Bauchi State.

As gathered, the attack and arrest of the youths occurred at a time when the Bauchi judiciary were on strike. The courts and its workers were not on seat when the arresting and investigating officers detained the 40 youths for the alleged crime of “criminal conspiracy inciting disturbance and mischief”. The arresting officers led by the detective ASP Mustafa Mohamed informed through their police report [attached below] that the 40 youths should be presented to court for arraignment.

As alleged by the counsel to the 40 youths, the police went on to detain the youths on prison without evidence of a court sentencing the youths to prison or remanding them to be imprisoned.
