No Amount Of Blackmail Would Pull Gov. Orji Down – By Charles Ajunwa

It was Theodore Roosevelt who said, it is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

 

Governor Theodore Ahamefule Orji of Abia State who is loved by many is that proverbial man who strives valiantly… to uplift his state, but a minute number who are opposed to his government (opposition politicians and their hirelings) want to take the credit. These people have vowed to discredit every good works the governor is doing in Abia State, but they are not succeeding. They are only succeeding in the line that they are attracting ridicule to themselves. The good people of Abia State know that the destructive media war that these people have launched against Governor Orji will never be attractive to them; hence they always wave the destructive critics’ blackmail with the back of their hands.

 

Frantz Fanon would cite that sometimes people hold a core belief that is very strong. When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted. It would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance. And because it is so important to protect the core belief, they will rationalize, ignore and even deny anything that doesn’t fit in with the core belief.

 

Since the governor said that power has to shift to Abia South after his tenure and the emergence of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu (PhD) after a delegation of the Democratic Party (PDP) voted for him in December 8, 2014, as the candidate of the PDP in Abia State, the opposition has been sharpening their blunt knives day and night to slur him. But in all their evil plots, they have seen that they are not succeeding. Some are asking what Ikpeazu who has been adjudged the best in ASEPA (Abia State Environmental Pro­tection Agency) did when he was in that position. Let me say that the voice of a fraction can never be the opinion of the majority Abia people who have extolled the works that Ikpeazu did while in ASEPA beyond bound.

Ikpeazu, indeed, worked round the clock. Opposition can only be asking questions about this but can never disprove the fact that he performed marvellously and will continue to perform. Ikpeazu left a shinning record in his former job. Even the residents of Aba have always talked about Ikpeazu in good light. No two ways about it. Anything contrary to this is the make-believe story of those who feel that the government of Abia State is not bringing out the state’s money and share with them. Governor Orji is just laughing at such mentality of the people, who will never succeed in their plan.

 

One writer who has joined the opposition, but pretending to be working for the masses, was misleading the masses that Ikpeazu was stoned in Aba when he went to campaign in the area and it took the intervention of soldiers to calm the situation. I’ve not seen such a lie that was intended to mislead the public as this. On the entourage of Ikpeazu’s campaign team, nobody was molested, booed or jarred at Aba or elsewhere. It behoves to say that Aba and every other place that Ikpeazu went to campaign stood still and welcomed him in good destiny. He is a man that is loved by many and there are reassurances anywhere he went that Abia people are strongly in his support.

 

While these few persons in the opposition and their groups are economic with the truth and talk and write as people and groups that insult runs in their veins, they can never invalidate the fact that even traditional rulers in the state have given their total support for Ikpeazu. It’s obvious that they have seen how creditably Governor Orji has performed and they vowed to align with him; they vowed to align with Ikpeazu. No other candidate in the state enjoys the support that Ikpeazu is enjoying in the state.

 

But as if Mahatma Gandhi knew what would be playing out in Abia State today in the camp of the opposition and he chronicled some of the features of opposition in his “Seven Deadly Sins” and he admonished detractors as we have in Abia State today to desist from: Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Science without humanity, Knowledge without character, Politics without principle, Commerce without morality, Worship without sacrifice. But will they listen, where they are much grouping and regrouping on how to pull Governor Orji and Dr. Ikpeazu down? I laugh in German!

If anybody is thinking that there is any other candidate in Abia State that is better than Ikpeazu, then I wonder why the misleading campaign they tagged “door-door campaign”. The truth is that the opposition politicians know that the people of Abia State do not want them, therefore the clandestine approach they are applying to deceive the people. Conversely, the people know where they stand: Ikpeazu. This is a man who has been tested and is trusted. He would win overwhelmingly in the February elections without meeting any hitch. How can a man whom the people are with fail? The opposition is just making noise and reminds me of the statement by Isaac Asimov when he said that “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States…” Those in this cult of ignorance in Abia State assume that in a democracy, “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

 

Let me make it clear that Governor Orji or anyone in government has never at a point made it in the form of a speech or writing that his government and him would oversee who would govern Abia State. This idea is the continuous media blackmail by the opposition who do not want to end at nothing without brewing one lie from another against the government of Governor Orji and the governor himself. The governor has always said that no man is an island and that he would not have been a governor if there were no people to govern. So, how can anybody believe that the same man who loves his people dearly will do a thing like that? The governor loves his state and the people. He is not tyrannical. He has a humane heart.

 

C.S. Lewis may be telling opposition in the state who write a lot of junks against the governor because their conscience approves of that they write garbage, hence C.S. Lewis warns that of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. Those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
