Abia 2015: MCL To Hold Debate For Ikpeazu, Otti, Abaribe, Others

A cable television station, Modern Communication Limited has concluded plans to hold a debate for governorship and National Assembly candidates of all political parties in Abia state.

General Manager of MCL, Chief Ogwo Agu who disclosed this while addressing a press conference in Aba described the proposed debate as one of his station’s numerous contributions to the development of democracy in the country.

Ogwo added that they decided to hold the debate in order to guide the electorate to elect credible leaders who will deliver democracy dividends to the state.

 

According to him, “the days of voting in people because of sentiments are over. We don’t to leave the electorate blind. We want to use the forum to make the candidates tell us why they are seeking the votes of the people. We did it four years ago in 2011; this year, 2015, we want it better. Abia people want the best in 2015.”

He disclosed that the debate for the National Assembly candidates will hold in Umuahia on 6th February while candidates in Aba area would have their day on 7th February.

Ogwo who assured that invitations has been sent to all political parties and candidates stated that the debate would be beamed live on the MCL channel, adding that the governorship debate has been scheduled to hold on the 20th and 21st February for Umuahia and Aba, respectively.

 

While assuring political parties and their candidates of equal opportunity, Consultant on Electronic Media to MCL, Dr. Charles Chinekezi said the debate is being organized at no cost to the candidates or their political parties and warned them to play by the rules.

247ureports.com gathered that MCL organized a debate for governorship and National Assembly candidates who ran for the 2011 polls in Abia state.

 

Our correspondent learnt that the 2011 debate was shunned by all candidates of the PDP except the party’s candidate for Aba North/Aba South federal constituency, Hon.Uzo Azubuike who stole the show at the occasion.
