Northern leaders call for confiscation of book on Igbo elites

A group in the Northern part of Nigeria, comprising Hausa leaders have urged the Federal government and security agencies to confiscate a book, Most Influential Igbo Personalities that would be celebrating successful elites from the eastern region of the country.

According to the group, the book serves as a tool to position the Igbos as being prepared of standing better chances to contest for the presidential position under any political platform, whereby reducing the North of its electoral values.

Suspecting the Yorubas of outright sabotage, the group pointed out that they purposely gave consent to it when their most prominent son in the media industry, Mr. Femi Adesina wrote foreword of the book which its content leaked online.

As contained on the leaked foreword written by Mr Femi Adesina who is the President of Editors’ Guild of Nigeria and Managing Director of the Sun Newspapers, he allegedly described the book as “capsule biographies of not five, not ten, not twenty, but a whopping number of Igbo sons and daughters, who are torchbearers in society.”

“And don’t think it is only the old brigade that dominates the book. No, you don’t have to be a Methuselah before you can be a role model. You have them across all the ages. The young, the not so old, and the old. It is a medley that gives you a vivid picture of human society at any given times.

“Like the good scribe, who takes from both the old and the new, the book gives us a blend of Igbo stars across the generations. No doubt, the author has opened new frontiers in knowledge and information. After reading about those listed in this work, you have a feeling of having known them better. Igbo tribe has good reason to be proud of them,” it noted.

Therefore, the group unanimously called on the security agencies to confiscate the book, urging them not to allow it get to the market, as it serves as a sure way of showcasing the North as never do wells in the society.

Meanwhile, they further argued that since the book showcases the Igbo’s finest, it will reduce the quality of their people and elites who will not be enjoying any means for the public to rate their human qualities for election purposes.
