The Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Lawal Shuaibu, has said that former President Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo, is sympathetic to the largest opposition party because of his believe in the kind of change that the party would bring to Nigeria.

Shuaibu confirmed that APC has secured favour from Obasanjo and other ex-head of state ahead the 2015 general elections even as some of them are still card carrying members of ruling PDP.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

The Deputy National Chairman (North) of APC, who revealed this in an interview with some journalists in Abuja, also said that Obasanjo has resolved to support anybody that could effect change from current “legalised corruption” in the country.

He said: “We don’t have any connection with Obasanjo other than Obasanjo sympathises with anybody that could effect change in this country. He is not a member of our party mind you, he is still a PDP man but for the fact that he is a former democratic President in this country people listen to him. More often than not, some people goes to seek for his advice both from PDP, APC and other parties. But he is interested in the type of change we are driving on, so he is to certain extent sympathetic to APC.”

According to him, people makes mistakes but when they sit down and realised their mistakes, they may not be the one to correct that mistakes but they will align with anybody who have seal for such change while bringing to bear their own experiences as to how such mistakes were committed in other to avoid such mistakes again.

Suhaibu revealed that APC has as a matter of policy enforcing it government at all level to ensure the implementation of it approved manifestos across board, adding that what has happened with legacy parties that formed APC would totally different from what will happen in APC.

“It is not everybody in PDP that came to join APC. Whatever has happened in PDP is because of it own system. Those that left the PDP proberly find themselves in the mix of strange birs fellows and what was happening in PDP came to affect them and they are now have seen the attraction in APC and they have come to join the wagon for change.

“I assure you in APC we are going to strictly observe in line with the provision of our constitution and in line with what our manifestos stipulate which is the principle of supremacy of the party. The party is supreme, the party dictate what happens, no the governors, not the president because the governors are for the party and the party has programs, policies and guidlines and everybody who is a product of the party must abide by that.”

When asked who is the leader of APC, the APC chieftain simply said Chief Oyegun is the leader but added that “there are national leaders like Atiku Abubakar, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Alh. Yusuf Ali, Chief Bisi Akande, Dr. Ogbonayan Onu and many others but because Tinubu is always in the news and other are no so much in the news like Tinubu. So, the issue of national leaders has nothing to do with the constitution of the party.”

Reacting to the recent over N21 billion raised by PDP to fund president Jonathan’s re-election, Sen. Shuhaibu said APC is not worried by that, saying though his party will also raise fund by it would by transparent by publish all the names of donors for Nigerians to see.
