The Chairman of the World Igbo Congress, WIC, Ichie Dr. Larry Udorji, has called on the governors of the five Igbo States in Nigeria to ensure that there are safe and enabling environment for the economic growth of the various Igbo States in order to create a more self-sustaining and viable future for the Igbos.

Dr. Udorji who made the statement during a Board Meeting of the World Igbo Congress in Lanham, Maryland, United States of America, noted that it was sympathetic that the economic and social lives of Ndigbo are under serious threat due to kidnapping, armed robbery with violence and other vices that have continued to be a clog in the economic and social wheel of progress of the Ndigbo.

He said that the World Igbo Congress, WIC, will partner with the Igbo State governments and Town Unions to enhance the security of lives and properties, adding that Ndigbo must feel free in their villages and towns before dealing with the threats to their lives and properties in other parts of the country.

“Ndigbo must feel free and secure in their homelands before grappling with the threats to their lives and properties in other parts of the country. Security of lives and properties help to build the economy of a people.”

Continuing, Dr. Udorji warned that if the current rate at which kidnapping and armed robbery were growing and threatening the lives of the people was not checked, there could be a devastating economic effect on the lives of the people, and called on the government and all the security agencies to double their efforts in eradicating these evil menace.

The World Igbo Congress Chairman regretted that the Igbos have been targeted in some parts of the country, especially the north, and warned that Ndigbo will not continue to fold their hands and watch while their brothers and sisters were being slaughtered in some parts of the country. He called on Ndigbo all over Nigeria to always be at alert against any terror attacks that were aimed against them.

The WIC Chairman said, “The Igbos will stand up and courageously defend themselves. And if the current waves of attacks against the lives and properties of Ndigbo are not controlled, we will not continue to fold our hands while the agents of destruction continue to maim our people, rendering them homeless and depriving them of their sources of livelihood.”

Dr. Larry Udorji also tasked the Igbo elites and the rich to use their positions and wealth to develop Alaigbo, adding that this would help in liberating the Igbo s from the fangs of the ugly effects of the economic down turn in the country and other parts of the world.
