Peace Summit Asks Al Makura To Prosecute Ombatse Members

Members of Nasarawa state peace summit has thrown their weight behind the proscription, prosecution of all Ombatse members in the state.

 

This was contained in a communique made available to newsmen at the end of peace meeting at government house today, September 2, 2014, by Mohammed Abubakar.

 

The communique stated in part that Nasarawa state government should implement all the government whitepapers on the previous reports of communal violence. The summit resolved that anybody professing membership of the cult group should be apprehended and prosecuted.

 

It stated that the crisis has portrayed the state in a bad light. The summit resolved that there is need to come together and live in peace with one another and contribute towards enhancing sustainable peace as envisaged by the founding fathers of the state.

The summit supported government efforts in the provision of relief materials and resettlement of displaced persons. It urged government to expedite efforts in getting people back to their homes and to also provide enough security to protect them.

 

The communique recommended for the culprits of various offences to be punished.

– “that cultural and Development Associations in the state to discharge their roles in the inculcation of good behavior in their members”.

 

The summit also commended government for calling peace meeting, advising that such exercise should be called more regularly in order to guard people’s sense of belonging and ensure the corporate existence of our state. “Government and security agencies should collaborate with community leaders and cultural associations to disarm ethnic militia group in the state”.

“Visible roles be accorded to traditional rulers in the state to complement government efforts, This is even if an exclusive Bill should be sent to the state Assembly”.
