The Enugu State Government has said it has commenced the arrest and prosecution of people found trading on the streets or on the newly
constructed walk ways and road lay bys in the Enugu capital territory in accordance with an existing ban on street trading.

The State Commissioner in charge of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), Engineer Ike Ugwuegede, who disclosed
this in a briefing with Government House Correspondents, said the
goods seized from offenders will also be forfeited to the government.

The Commissioner said the ban on street trading was among other
things, aimed at preserving the environment and infrastructure.

He stated that relevant government agencies have been mandated to
search for defaulters and bring them to face the full wrath of the
law.

Engineer Ugwuegede therefore warned citizens who are still engaging in
the illegal practice to give it up immediately in order to avoid
punishment.
