President Jonathan Direct I-G To Proceed On Compulsory Leave

President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the Inspector of Police Mohammed Abubakar to proceed on compulsory leave.

The Secretary to the Government, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, issued a letter signed by the president on Monday May 12th asking the IG to hand over to his immediate subordinate, DIG Suleiman Fakai, who is the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Finance and Administration.

hand over to his immediate subordinate, Suleiman Fakai, who is the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Finance and Administration.

 

MD Abubakar became Inspector General of Police on January 25, 2012 and is due to retire July 30th 2014 based on mandatory retirement age after serving in the Nigerian Police Force for 35 years.

 

The outgoing IGP had applied for a tenure extension, which was turned down by the presidency.

Under his tenure, the IGP banned checkpoints on all highways in the country.

He also achieved a pass mark for improving on the image of the Force, while most of the officers caught in the act corruption or misuse o firearm/power were dismissed or demoted.

MD Abubakar, a widower who remarried last year to a beautiful lady will now have the fullest of time to enjoy his new wife.

 

Just last week, his son survived an air mishap,when the IRS he was co-piloting crashed in Niger Republic.
