A tricycle operator, Chidera Agu has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Aba,the commercial nerve centre of Abia State.
Eyewitness accounts told our correspondent that the gunmen later escaped with the tricycle after shooting the man who died on the spot.
247ureports .com gathered that the incident which happened at Nwanguma Street off Obohia road in Aba South LGA stunned residents of the area gunshot boomed in the vicinity.
A resident who gave his name as Ogbonna said that Chidera was shot at about 9:00pm and died before he could be taken to the hospital.
According to him, “Many of us were confused with the gunshot we heard. We thought it was the police, but when we got to the scene, we saw a man lying in a pool of his blood. The gunmen had gone, but a police patrol team from Ndiegoro Division arrived the scene and took away the man’s corpse.”
A police source at the Ndiegoro Division told our correspondent that the deceased’s family came to the station and identified him as a tricycle rider.He disclosed that investigations have begun as Chidera’s body has been deposited at a morgue in Aba.
When contacted, Abia State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu who confirmed the incident said his men have launched a manhunt for the gunmen killers.
