NSCDC smashes Child’s Labour syndicate in Enugu

Nigeria Security Civil Defense Corp,NSCDC, Enugu State Command has smashed a notorious Child’s Labour syndicate who specializes in renting babies between 6-7 months old to beg for alms in pretense that she gave birth to triplet at strategic corners of Enugu metropolis.

The 3-member gang comprising of woman between the ages of 20-35 years were arrested at Apo Filling Station, beside Mayor bus-stop, Agbani road, Enugu.

NSCDC gave the names of the gang members to include; Leader, Esther Etim, from Akwa-Ibiom State,Onwuegbulam Ngozi and Gift John.

While parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters at  the weekend, the Commandant, Mr. Nathaniel Ubong, explained that the command’s surveillance unit has been monitoring the woman(Esther Etim), undercover for the past 3-4 months.

He revealed that the operatives had noticed that there is no resemblance among the babies which Esther Etim usually sit on the ground with under an umbrella to solicit for alms from unsuspecting members of the public.

“The women confessed that they rent these babies everyday and come out at strategics junctions in Enugu metropolis and beg for alms.

“They make between fifteen to twenty thousand daily and share the booty among themselves. They have been into this act since 2010.

“After investigations, we will transfer them to National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking Persons,NAPTIP. They are the authority saddled with the responsibilities of dealing with such matter” NSCDC boss maintained.
