A commercial tricycle operator in Aba, Abia State has been crushed to death along Opobo Road by a truck belonging to Coca-cola, a soft drink manufacturing company.

Eyewitnesses hinted that the late man, simply identified as Anyamaghiobi Okezie, a resident of Nna Close, Starline Estate, Ogbor-Hill, was hit by the tail of the truck as he was fixing his damaged tricycle which broke down along the ever busy Opobo road.

247ureports.com gathered that the victim died on the spot as his skull splattered on the tarred road while his stomach ripped open with his intestines gushing out.

A shop owner in the area told our correspondent that the company driver never knew that he had killed Okezie because it was the tail of the truck that hit him and only came to realize the incident when tricycle operators caught up with his truck and informed him.

The driver handed himself over to soldiers at the checkpoint on Opobo / Emelogu roads Junction who alerted the police while the body of the dead man was deposited at an undisclosed mortuary.

It would be recalled that it was on the same Opobo road that a tipper lorry recently rammed into a primary school and killed four pupils while others sustained injuries.

Residents who spoke to our correspondent attributed the incessant accidents recorded on the Opobo road to the deplorable condition of the Aba – Ikot Ekpene road, which has led to vehicles going to Akwa Ibom and Cross River states to divert to Opobo-Azumini road which remains the only motorable route to the two states.

They appealed to both the Abia state and Federal government to repair the failed portions to reduce the rate of accidents being recorded on the road.
