Information reaching 247ureports.com indicates that the Special Adviser to the Vice President on Special Duties, Senator Isaiah Chawai Balat, is dead. He died Tuesday afternoon enroute to a hospital in Germany from National Hospital Abuja. He died at the age of 61.

Isaiah Chawai Balat(born October 23, 1952). Isaiah Chawai Balat was born in Gora, a village in Zangon Kataf local government Area of Kaduna State, Losing his mother as an infant, he had to live with his grandmother until he was old enough to fend for himself. He later left the village and moved to the city to make a living. After his primary and post-primary education, he attended a programme in Marketing at the Kaduna Polytechnic between 1976 and 1978. Later he attended the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School and the college of Petroleum and Energy Studies at Oxford, United Kingdom.

He served as the Minister of State for Works and Housing from 1999-2000, as a Senator representing Kaduna South Local Government from 2003- 2007, he was appointed Minister of State for Works & Housing in the cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo in June 1999.

Balat had been listed by President Jonathan as a minister nominee but he would not serve/accept due to illness.

He established the Isaiah Balat Foundation, which has the goal of vaccinating over a million people across Kaduna state against Meningitis.
