Abia State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Usman Tilli Abubakar has disclosed that his Command rescued 44 pregnant teenagers and nabbed 23 child traffickers across the state in the out gone year.
Abubakar stated that the 44 pregnant teenagers and their 8 babies were rescued when policemen invaded different illegal baby factories operating in the state.
The CP who spoke through the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Geoffrey Ogbonna, said that under the year in review, 41 suspected kidnappers were also arrested while 17 kidnapped victims rescued.
He also disclosed that 3 drums of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were confiscated by the state command, adding that 69 suspected armed robbers were also arrested in 2013.
“22 vehicles, 28 fire arms made of AK47, Military Riffles, locally made long and short guns were recovered from armed robbers in the state at different locations. Out of 1,059 suspected persons arrested last year, 84 persons were convicted by the court while out of 1,035 cases in court in 2012, 7 persons were convicted of the charges they were arraigned in court for.
“The property recovered in 2013 is estimated at the tune of N1.6million. The suspects were arrested during police raiding at different suspected criminal hideouts, through surveillance and intelligent gathering, community policing, assistance of other sister security agencies and interception of suspects at different black spots in the state,” he said.
Abubakar hinted that three officers from the Command were lost to auto crash while on official duty in 2013.
He called for the support of the members of the public to rid the state of
criminal elements and assured that his command has the capacity to storm any distressed point within five minutes of receiving information..
