Youths threaten to hut refinery

Ex-militant leader, Ateke Tom, has joined the camp seeking for the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu to stay. He received thousands of protesting Okrika youths, who vowed to ground activities at the refinery if Mbu is transferred.

Tom received the protesters at the National Field and marched through major streets of the community, and stopped at the St. Peters Square where they stated their grievances and demands before Ateke Tom.

Iseobo Dennis, National President, South South Democratic Coalition, who spoke at the protest said: “We are here to tell the whole world that CP Mbu is going no where. Before coming of Mbu, Rivers experience repeated killings by government, particularly of several Okrika youths who were murdered for no defensible course. But Mbu came and since then we have experienced peace.

“The Okrika people will not accept the removal of Mbu because some shameless persons are putting up cheap drama to remove him so they can be free to start killing and oppressing the people again. If they try it, we will ensure Nigeria becomes koboless. This is not empty threat. Nigeria’s economic mainstays are in our backyard. We will make sure the PPMC, the refineries and other major federal structures in our area are grounded.”
