Rivers APC Seeks NSA’s Intervention In Rivers Crisis, Insists On Mbu’s Redeployment

rivers

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has called on the National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.) to intervene in the call for the redeployment of Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu following the alleged police shooting of Senator Magnus Ngei Abe at a rally in Port Harcourt Sunday.

Abe has been flown to London for treatment.

Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, the media adviser to the interim chairman of Rivers APC accuse the police of denying its involvement in the shooting, stressing the time has come for the redeployment of Mbu.

He called Mbu a member of the PDP, and a security risk to the state.

He said: “The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter, has noted the barefaced lies spewed out by the State Police Commissioner, CP Joseph Mbu, in his desperation to minimize the public outrage that has rightly trailed the death of five innocent children and the attempted murder of Senator Magnus Abe and Sir Tony Okocha, Chief of Staff to Governor Chibuike Amaechi, after policemen acting on the CP’s orders used rubber bullets to stop yesterday’s rally of the Save Rivers Movement in Obio-Akpor.

“For CP Mbu to say that his men used minimum force to stop the rally raises questions about his understanding of the English Language. How on earth can “force” that resulted to the killing of five children and the shooting of two prominent politicians be described as “minimum”? This just doesn’t make sense! In other words, if Police had used maximum Force then the entire Rivers State would have been burnt on the instruction of a misguided Police ‘Politician’.

“We are however not surprised since CP Mbu is a key member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has been behaving like a wounded lion since losing the strategic state of Rivers. Mbu does not deserve the uniform and rank he is wearing. He has demonstrated his crass ignorance of the relevant sections of the Constitution that gives Nigerians the power to associate freely without any need for police permit. He should hide his face in shame.

“We wish to declare for the umpteenth time that CP Mbu is a security risk in Rivers State. He is an agent of destabilization. Since Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar can no longer call him to order, we hereby plead with the National Security (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.) to intervene and ensure CP Mbu’s redeployment. He should leave our State as his presence in Rivers portends evil!”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, Rivers State chapter has described Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as a desperate politician, who would stop at nothing to win the people’s sympathy.

The PDP, through Jerry Needam, the media adviser to the chairman, Felix Obuah said that the protests of Ogoni youths along East/West Road over the alleged shooting of Abe, vindicates its position “that the whole story surrounding the alleged shooting of the Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe was dramatized and full of fictions.”

“The Party notes with bitterness the level of desperation on the side of Governor Amaechi and his allies which led them to hire thugs to cause obstructions to movement and activities along the Ogoni axis of the East-West Road early today in a quest to draw attention to the alleged shooting of the Senator yesterday in Port Harcourt.

The PDP alleged that “the thugs who were promised N10,000 each on completion of their assignment on the road, by their employers, were disappointed with the payment of N1000 each, an action that ignited the youths to vent their anger on the Gokana Council secretariat building, leading to the looting and massive damage of some sections of the building and vehicles parked around the vicinity.

The thugs also in a bid to get the N10, 000 each as promised, are on the trail of the Gokana Council Chairman, Mr Ledee Demua Ledee and the State Commissioner of Works, Chief Victor Giadom, who the hoodlums said engaged them.
