Police Arrest Electricity Cable Thieves In Aba

Police in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State have arrested two men accused of vandalizing electricity cables in the city.

The two men, Chidi Onwumere and Iheukwumere Enwereji were alleged to have vandalized three 35mm electricity cables from the over head lines to the transformer at Ahia Nkwo market sub station in Abayi, Aba.

247Ureports.com sources said one of the thieves was nabbed in a commercial tricycle on his way home with his booty.

The Keke NAPEP operator was said to have confided in another passenger that suspects the man to be carrying stolen goods. The other passenger who turned out to be a police officer demanded to search the man and his goods which were discovered to be vandalized electricity cables.

The suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the Aba Area Command of the Nigerian police. After interrogation, he was said to have named his conspirator who was also arrested. The police invited PHCN officials from the Ariaria Business Unit identified the cables to belong to the company.

Business Manager of the Unit, R.C Iwu, bemoaned the activities of cable vandals, stressing that their activities were responsible for power cuts being experienced in the area.

Iwu who was represented by the Public Affairs officer of the unit, Victor Nwanguma charged members of the public to help in safeguarding PHCN facilities within their areas.
