Barely a week after Dr Willie Obianor was chosen as the flagbearer of the All progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Another faction of the party led by chief Maxi OKWU yesterday at the MicRoyal Hotels Awka unanimously elected Dr Chike OBIDIGBO as its flagbearer for the Anambra governorship election scheduled for Nov 16,2013.
Announcing the commencement of the primary process yesterday, Mazi Nwosu stated that the special congress to elect the governorship candidate was in line with Sec 11(11:4) of the party’s operational constitution and code of conduct.
That it was coming at at this auspicious time to elect a candidate that peals to the wide spread membership base and citizens of the state who would eventually beat all comers in the governorship race in the state.
Secretary of the party’s screening committee, Chief Chris Eze pointed out that after a careful and critical appraisal of the entire aspirants’ credentials and antecedents Dr Chike OBIDIGBO came out tops, beating all others. He said it was in deed against all acceptable logic to sacrifice such high caliber personality on the alter of sentiments and parochialism. He therefore said he was proud to present OBIDIGBO to the nearly 600 delegates drawn from the 326 electoral wards in the state.
OBIDIGBO was subsequently nominated by Mr Victor NDU from Onitsha North LGA, Ward 13, while MrJoseph Meze, from Oyi LGA, Ward 1 seconded it.
The aspirant went ahead to poll 452 votes and was so declared elected as the candidate of the party.
OKWU, while presenting the party’s flag to him, commended the delegates for their peaceful conduct and disposition during the process. He noted that,”APGA as a pacesetter in the nation’s polity will always get it right
He expressed high optimism that OBIDIGBO when elected will consolidate on Gov Peter Obi’s numerous achievements.
In his acceptance thanked the members for the confidence reposed in him and assured to carry the party’s banner to lofty heights. Said he was going to pursue APGA and the Igbo agenda that would lead to the empowerment of youth and the women.
