The hope of having a woman contest in Anambra State gubernatorial elections has finally been finally dashed in worrisome circumstances as Ngozi Ulasi, the female lawyer from the Diaspora who carried this hope has technically sold out on the ticket, now in safe custody of another Diaspora candidate Mr Godwin Ezeemo.

Ulasi and Mrs Uche Ekwunife were the two women who offered themselves for nomination on the platforms of Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) respectively.

Uche Ekwunife, a serving member of the deferral House of Representative was defeated in a controversial primaries conducted by  APGA , in which she alleged that she did not see the list of delegates ,close on the heels of the withdrawal of another aspirant, Mr John Emeka.

Ulasi buckled last weekend when Ezeemo surprisingly raised his profile as a candidate of PPA and Ulasi following the sack of the State Chairman of the party and appointment of another chairman.

A planted story published in an online newspaper claimed that Ulasi was poisoned and had gone to London for treatment. However the attached court process was unsigned and undated, leading many to believe that the so-called court process was only a smokescreen for what an Onitsha indigene yesterday described as ‘a settled dummy candidate trying to confuse an unsuspecting people’.

It is not immediately clear if Ulasi, who like Ezeemo lives in United Kingdom was planted by the present beneficiary of her escape, but the development, is raising dust and anger in the fold of woman where pockets of sympathy earlier built for the tough-talking Ulasi.

he Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is billed to publish the personal particulars of candidates for the November 16 elections on Tuesday September 24 2013 changing the gear of electioneering campaigns.
