Some of the front runners in the recent governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra state led by Chief Walter Ubaka Okeke have reacted sharply to what he described as “ostensibly sponsored media article titled Anambra PDP: Perpetually In Crisis Mode, being circulated by a section of the national media which gave erroneous impression that they boycotted the recent Anambra 2014 PDP Governorship Primary held at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka”.

They noted that in as much as they do not want to go into the entire article which according to them was clearly published to serve the personal and selfish purposes of the sponsors; it remains their inalienable right to put the records straight. This was to avoid feeding the unsuspecting members of the public with half-truths and outright falsehood like the one contained in the article under reference.

Walter Okeke, in his reaction in Awka yesterday told journalists that he, as well as my other brothers and sisters stayed with the Gov. Ibrahim Shema led panel who were sent by the National Working Committee (NWC) of our party to conduct and supervise the primary at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square Awka till the end of the process around 10pm on Aug 24, 2013.”

He noted also that the event which commenced with accreditation of delegates at the Women Development Centre from where all accredited delegates were conveyed under security cover to the Dr Ekwueme Square was transmitted and watched live in every part of the world, including Nigeria.

He said that he sat quietly all through the entire voting and counting processes directly behind Gov Shema who supervised the event. That whether he has any reservations about what happened or not remains personal, but for anyone to say that i boycotted it is a calculated falsehood that was meant to throw me and others in bad light. I therefore refute such insinuation, while my attorneys have been briefed to study the publication further with a view to commencing appropriate legal redress.”, Okeke noted.

He also cautioned other aspirants to exercise caution in their quest to take the front seat, especially where it involves offering to serve the people. That it should never be made to look like a life and death struggle.
